Treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Without Surgery
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a growing issue among America’s workforce. CTS can impact just about anyone who works with their hands, from receptionists to hair stylists. Patients who present with CTS are typically given a brace to minimize strain on the carpal (median) nerve, and, if that doesn’t resolve patient’s pain, physicians used to recommend surgery. New research indicates that hydrodissection therapy is a safe and effective alternative to treating CTS.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by compression and impingements in the median nerve as a result of ongoing stress to the nerve. Symptoms of CTS include pain, tingling, and numbness in the wrist and fingers.
Hydrodissection therapy is a cutting-edge treatment that has proven to be effective in treating CTS. Hydrodissection therapy works by injection a mixture of dextrose and saline into the casing of the carpal nerve, and this fluid expands the tissue along the nerve tract, releasing the impingements that cause CTS. Relief is almost instantaneous, but depending on the severity of a patient’s CTS, it can take up to 8 treatments to receive long-term relief. Unlike surgery, hydrodissection therapy is gentle enough that it does not require any anesthesia, and there is no down-time after the procedure.
It’s important to also resolve a patient's underlying cause of CTS through ergonomics, as this will allow the patient to receive the best results from hydrodissection therapy by minimizing further aggravation of the carpal tunnel nerve.
On a more personal note, I suffer from CTS and have been treated by Dr. Wheeler using hydrodissection therapy, and I can honestly say it has made such a huge difference in my comfort and quality of life. I’m constantly typing in my job, and prior to treatment my pain would be so intense that I would have to type one handed (not an easy feat, let me tell you). Since undergoing hydrodissection therapy I can type and work comfortably, and only do occasional maintenance treatments to maintain the effects. As of March 2022, it’s been about two years since I first received a hydrodissection therapy treatment, and I received my last treatment in late 2020 and haven’t needed another since!
