Green Machine Smoothie Recipe Nutrition & Recipes May 5 Written By Taylor Hartman Marrie’s signature Green Machine Smoothie is a fueling powerhouse for your mind and body. With key ingredients that help protect and boost brain function while also providing sustainable energy, stabilization of your blood sugar, and helping to calm your hunger hormones, this smoothie will help you stay s satisfied, energized, and focused throughout your day. If you’re beginning your wellness journey and are looking to start with just one change, this is it. Fueling your body with nutritious and yummy food is the simplest step you can take that has the biggest impact on your health. We like to make this recipe for breakfast, because it helps us make sure we start our day with a good ratio of macro and micro nutrients. What You NeedProteinThe first thing your smoothie needs is a healthy protein. We like to use either a high-quality protein powder, or an organic, grass-fed collagen powder. You'll add whatever the appropriate serving size is for the brand you have, usually 1-2 scoops/tablespoons (check the back of your container for the exact amount). Not sure what protein powder or collagen to get? These are a few of our favorite brands: Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, Great Lakes Collagen Peptides, Vega Sport Protein PowderFatNext, you need a healthy fat source to include in your smoothie. Marrie loves to use MCT oil, but you can also use avocado or any nut butter. If you're using an avocado, use about two slices that are as thick as your thumb. For MCT oil or nut butter, you want to use about 1 tablespoon. Our recommendation for MCT oil: Nature's Way MCT OilFiberIt's important to have fiber with every meal. Our favorite way to add fiber to smoothies is with chia seeds, but hemp seeds or extra leafy greens are also an excellent option. FunFruit, AKA nature's candy is where the fun comes in. Choose your favorite fruit to help sweeten your smoothie and add delicious flavor. We like frozen peaches best for summer, and berries are a great choice due to their high antioxidant content. Make sure to add no more than 1/2 cup of fruit, as more than that can raise your blood sugar significantly.GreensGreen leafy veggies have such great nutritional value, especially spinach. Spinach helps lower cholesterol, keep blood sugar levels in check, and act as a great source for vitamins K, C, and A. For your smoothie, you'll want to add a handful of frozen spinach. Marrie often tosses in a handful of micro greens too - micro greens are a fantastic way to get extra nutrients, as their tiny size means you get a lot of good nutritional benefits without a strong flavor. LiquidSince we're making a healthy and hunger-satiating smoothie, you should make sure the liquid you use offers nutritional benefits. We use a milk alternative such as almond milk, coconut milk, or hemp milk. This lets you get the creamy consistency typical of a smoothie plus it adds even more healthy fats and nutrients to your smoothie .And a blender, of course! Nourishing and fueling your body with healthy and delicious food is the most important way to take care of yourself physically. Marrie developed this smoothie to be calorically dense and packed with nutrients, allowing you to stay healthy, satiated, and more alert throughout your day.
